The Allen-Bradley 1746-HSRV is an SLC 500 Servo Control Module designed to control absolute position using a 32-bit register. It supports a wide range of command modes, including Absolute moves, Incremental moves, Speed moves, Monitor moves, Hold moves, Unhold moves, Blend moves, Emergency stop operations, Homing operations, Preset operations, Clear faults, and Alternate home moves.
The module is a single-slot device compatible with SLC 500 processors, specifically the SLC 5/03, SLC 5/04, and SLC 5/05, allowing precise control of servo motors in various industrial applications. Up to twelve 1746-HSRV modules can be installed in a single rack, enabling the control of multiple servo motors simultaneously.
Technical Specifications
As a Class 3 module, the 1746-HSRV provides up to 12 input words and 12 output words. In configuration mode, the module utilizes M files for accessing parameters and defining operational behavior. For optimal performance, Allen-Bradley recommends installing the module in Slot 0 or the lowest-numbered slot in an SLC 500 rack, positioning it as close to the processor as possible.
The module's backplane current consumption is 0.300 Amperes at 5 Volts DC and 0.104 Amperes at 24 Volts DC, ensuring efficient integration into the control system.
System Integration
For connection to a servo motor system, the 1746-HSRV is ideally paired with the 1746-HT termination panel. The module is connected to this panel using a 1746-HC cable, facilitating reliable communication and control of the servo motors. Module Operation
The SLC Servo Module provides 32-bit absolute position control and performs an origin search (homing) to reset the absolute position to the home reference when requested by the processor. Homing is triggered upon detecting one of the following signals:
  • Encoder marker
  • Limit switch
  • Limit switch and marker
The module operates in two primary modes:
  • Configuration Mode - for parameter setup and system configuration
  • Command Mode - for executing motion commands
In both modes, the module continuously reports status to the SLC processor, ensuring accurate monitoring and control of servo operations.
