View Installation and System Compatibility Notes
  • Internal-termination and external-termination I/O modules use different arrangements. External termination blocks cannot be used with internal-termination I/O modules.
  • For external terminations, the external termination block and cables are ordered separately.
  • For 4-wire RTD applications, the manufacturer specifies I/O Module Modification 179952-01.
  • When adding a monitor to an existing system, confirm the required minimum firmware and software versions. The datasheet specifies 3500/22 firmware 1.50, 3500/01 software 3.85, 3500/93 firmware 2.02, and System 1 software 5.2 with Service Pack 2 or later. 3500/02 and 3500/03 software are not supported.
  • In Triple Modular Redundant (TMR) configurations, temperature monitors must be installed in groups of three adjacent monitors.
  • When replacing certain older I/O module revisions, follow the manufacturer's firmware-upgrade sequence. The datasheet warns that an incorrect sequence can produce an I/O Module Mismatch and 562 ADC Failure event.

Confirm the installed rack, I/O module part number and revision, termination method, firmware, software, and sensor wiring before replacing or commissioning equipment.

Application & Failure Scenarios

This module is used in machinery monitoring installations where temperature signals are part of the equipment protection strategy. Depending on the installed sensors and system design, monitored points may include bearing metal, compressor process, steam, or motor stator temperatures.

  • Typical replacement trigger: a monitor fault, unavailable or abnormal temperature channels, or scheduled maintenance requiring a replacement module.
  • Operational risk: loss of required temperature monitoring can reduce visibility into overheating conditions and affect configured alarm or protection functions.
  • Replacement check: verify the installed I/O arrangement, sensor type, configuration, and rack software or firmware requirements. Sensor, wiring, and configuration faults may also cause abnormal readings.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the BENTLY NEVADA 3500/65 145988-02 used for?
It is a temperature-monitoring module in the 3500 Machinery Protection System. It processes RTD or isolated-tip thermocouple measurements and compares them with configured alarm setpoints.
2. Which temperature sensor types can the 3500/65 accept?
The monitor supports specified RTD types, including platinum, nickel, and copper RTDs, as well as Type E, J, K, and T thermocouples. Confirm the sensor characteristics and channel configuration against the manufacturer's datasheet.
3. Can the 145988-02 be replaced without checking the I/O module?
The existing I/O module and termination arrangement should be checked before replacement. Internal and external termination arrangements are not interchangeable, and software or firmware requirements may affect compatibility with an existing rack.
4. What should be checked if a temperature channel is abnormal?
Review the relevant channel configuration, installed sensor type, field wiring, I/O module arrangement, monitor status indicators, and system event information. Confirm whether the issue originates in the monitor, I/O module, sensor, wiring, or configuration before replacing hardware.
5. How can I request a quotation for this part?
