Redundant Kit Overview

ABB PM867K02 combines two PM867 CPUs with TP830 baseplates, TB807 terminators, TK850 and TK851 links and one backup battery per CPU. The pair supports redundancy across the controllers, CEX-Bus, communication interfaces and engineered S800 I/O paths. High Integrity use additionally requires SM812 and certified software.

Redundancy Architecture & System Fit

System 800xA and Control Builder

ABB states that PM867 High Integrity is compatible with System 800xA 6.0.2 and later and is configured with 800xA Control Builder.

Redundant S800 I/O path

The redundant PM867 configuration uses optical ModuleBus clusters. ABB lists zero electrical clusters and up to seven optical clusters for a redundant CPU.

The reviewed ABB documents do not name a direct replacement or migration successor for PM867K02. PM867K01 is a non-redundant package and must not be treated as an equivalent kit.

Switchover Risks & Maintenance Checks

Redundant controller renewal

Used when maintenance needs the ABB-defined CPU pair and redundancy accessories rather than two separately sourced processor units.

High-availability process control

Supports a controller design in which the CPU, CEX-Bus, communication interfaces and S800 I/O are engineered for redundancy.

Backup CPU unavailable

Inspect both 24 VDC supplies, CPU status, TK851 RCU-Link continuity, configuration state and firmware/application consistency across the pair.

I/O loss after switchover

Check optical ModuleBus architecture, TB840/FCI status where used, bus termination and the redundant configuration. The electrical ModuleBus is not used for redundant PM867 I/O clusters.

Redundant Pair Change Checklist

01Count the hardware

Verify two CPUs, two TP830 bases, two TB807 terminators and two batteries.

02Confirm the links

Check one TK850 CEX-Bus expansion cable and one TK851 RCU-Link cable.

03Match the project

Confirm 800xA revision, controller firmware, hardware libraries and application backup.

04Prove the standby

Commission the backup CPU and verify the approved switchover test under site procedure.

A kit that is visually complete may still be unsuitable if the system version, safety configuration, optical I/O design or firmware baseline does not match.
