ABB NTAI02 Thermocouple Input Termination Unit

NTAI02 is a field termination unit for thermocouple and millivolt inputs in the Bailey INFI 90 system. It terminates incoming field wiring and connects the signal path to associated IMASM02 thermocouple slave modules.

Termination Unit
BAILEY / INFI 90

A field-side interface in the INFI 90 measurement path.

NTAI02 handles field termination, local cold-junction reference and calibration access rather than performing the analog input processing itself.

The NTAI02 is a single printed circuit board that mounts in an NFTP01 Field Termination Panel. Its on-board terminal blocks accept field input wiring for 16 thermocouple or millivolt inputs.

One NTAI02 can connect one or two IMASM02 Thermocouple Input Slave Modules through separate cables. The signals pass through the slave modules to the IMAMM03 Analog Master Module.

Unit identity The assembly combines field terminals, cold-junction reference RTDs, calibration access and system interconnects on the termination-unit board.

From field thermocouple to the INFI 90 input path.

The termination unit is one stage of the installed measurement chain.

01 / FIELD

Field equipment

Thermocouple or millivolt signals enter through the field wiring connected to the termination unit.

02 / TU

NTAI02

Field terminals receive the signals. Cold-junction reference RTDs and calibration access are provided on the TU.

03 / SLAVE

IMASM02

One or two Thermocouple Input Slave Modules receive the terminated signals through separate cables.

04 / MASTER

IMAMM03

The slave-module signals continue to the Analog Master Module within the INFI 90 architecture.

Cold-junction reference Cold-junction reference RTDs are located on the NTAI02 for the thermocouple inputs.
Multi-unit arrangement The documentation describes interconnection of up to four NTAI02 units, allowing the IMAMM03 to monitor local cold-junction references and route internal calibration voltages to eight IMASM02 units.

Replace the termination unit without losing the field mapping.

The replacement procedure focuses on power isolation, wiring identification and restoration of the existing cable arrangement.

  • 01 Turn off cabinet power and any external supplies providing I/O power to the TU.
  • 02 Remove terminal block covers and label field wiring before disconnecting it.
  • 03 Label and disconnect cables, I/O power and system ground connected to the TU.
  • 04 Remove the two screws securing the termination unit to the field termination panel.
  • 05 Install the replacement unit, reconnect wiring and cables, then restore the terminal covers.
  • 06 Re-energize the applicable supplies and calibrate the replacement TU / connected slave path according to the applicable IMAMM03 procedure.

Calibration access

Internal and external test points together with a calibration-select switch are provided on the TU.

The documented arrangement allows calibration access using internal or external calibration voltage sources.

Service point

Calibration should be performed as part of the associated IMASM02 / IMAMM03 signal path and according to the applicable system procedure.

Match the installed architecture before substitution.

Compatibility is separated from replacement status so associated hardware is not mistaken for a substitute.

Original-system compatibility

IMASM02 + IMAMM03

The documented signal path uses one or two IMASM02 slave modules with the NTAI02, with the slave path connected to the IMAMM03 Analog Master Module.

Termination hardware

NFTP01

NTAI02 mounts in the NFTP01 Field Termination Panel. The panel, field cables and existing termination arrangement should be checked before installation.

Historical replacement

Not identified

The cited NTAI02 documentation does not identify a one-for-one successor termination unit. Any migration to another I/O architecture requires system-level verification.

Procurement check: Verify the NTAI02 marking, associated IMASM02 / IMAMM03 hardware, cables and NFTP01 arrangement before ordering.

Where a termination-unit fault becomes a maintenance problem.

Search terms for NTAI02 usually appear around field-side signal loss, termination faults and planned shutdown spares.

Input channel loss A temperature or millivolt signal is no longer reaching the expected input path.
Termination fault Damaged termination hardware or disturbed conductors requires field-side investigation.
Calibration issue The TU calibration path, test points or associated slave path becomes part of troubleshooting.
Shutdown spare An exact termination unit is held in stock so an existing field-panel arrangement can be restored during maintenance.
Shutdown risk

Diagnose the complete path before replacing the TU.

If multiple channels are affected, check common wiring, interconnect cables, IMASM02 modules, power and the IMAMM03 path before concluding that the NTAI02 is defective.

Three checkpoints before changing the board.

Use the installed signal path to distinguish a termination problem from a cable, slave or master-module problem.

CHECK 01

Field wiring

Confirm conductor identification, terminal condition and the field-side circuit before removing the TU.

CHECK 02

TU-to-slave cable

Verify the interconnect between NTAI02 and IMASM02. A cable problem can present as an apparent board failure.

CHECK 03

IMASM02 / IMAMM03

If termination and cabling are intact, continue through the associated slave and master path using the system procedure.

Maintenance and calibration should follow the applicable ABB / Bailey instructions and be performed by qualified personnel.

Identification first. Dispatch second.

Commercial terms are confirmed with the quotation and order. The handling points below clarify what to expect from AMIKON.

  • Identification Part number and available unit condition are checked before quotation.
  • Testing Where applicable to the agreed condition, inspection and functional testing are completed before dispatch.
  • Packaging Industrial spare parts are packed to reduce handling and transportation risk.
  • DOA Report any dead-on-arrival condition promptly with order details and supporting evidence.
  • Warranty Warranty coverage follows the quotation and order terms. Incorrect installation or post-delivery damage is not automatically covered.
  • Returns Contact AMIKON before returning the item so the applicable return procedure can be confirmed.
Shutdown-critical order Two useful checks
01

Installed system information

Include the installed system with the NTAI02 part number. This helps distinguish the termination board from the associated IMASM02, IMAMM03, cable or panel hardware.

02

Nameplate photograph

If the existing unit is available, a clear nameplate photograph is useful for final identification before shipment.
