Hardware Compatibility & Interchangeability
The "H4A" suffix designation refers to a specific hardware revision including processor clock speeds and onboard memory density. While many UCCCH-series boards appear identical, swapping an H4A with earlier H1 or H2 revisions can lead to backplane bus-contention or firmware-hardware mismatch. Always verify your ControlST software version supports the H4A's specific FPGA gate-array logic before installation.
IONet Communication Capabilities
This module features dedicated Ethernet ports specifically designed for GE's proprietary IONet—a deterministic, high-speed UDP-based network. The IS215UCCCH4A manages triple-modular redundant (TMR) or dual-redundant data streams, ensuring that a single-point network failure does not cause a turbine trip. It essentially acts as the master node for all downstream I/O packs.
Application Code Storage & Management
The controller utilizes non-volatile flash memory to store the runtime application and hardware configuration. Unlike older battery-backed RAM modules, the UCCC series is more resilient to long-term power outages. However, upon replacement, a "Download" from the Enervista™ or ControlST workstation is mandatory to synchronize the board's logic with the rest of the controller "Team."
Hot-Swapping Guidelines
Caution: While the Mark VIe system is robust, "Hot-Insertion" of a VME controller board is generally discouraged unless specifically stated in your site-specific SOP. Pulling a live UCCC board can cause a transient surge across the VME backplane, potentially crashing adjacent controllers. Best practice dictates de-energizing the specific rack or ensuring the controller is in a "Link-Down" state before physical removal.
