GE IC697HSC700 High-Speed Counter
The IC697 High Speed Counter (HSC) module processes rapid pulse signals up to 200 kHz (up to 800 kHz for Type E in A Quad B mode). This module independently senses inputs, processes count data, and controls outputs without requiring communication with the PLC CPU.
Featuring a simple, user-friendly PLC interface, the HSC is ideal for various industrial applications including:
- Turbine flowmeter systems
- Meter proving applications
- Velocity measurement
- Material handling equipment
- Motion control systems
- Process control operations
The IC697 High Speed Counter can be configured as one of five types: A, B, C, D, or E. All types include 12 inputs, four preset outputs, and optional PLC ladder interrupt capability.
Type A Configuration
Four identical, independently programmable unidirectional 16-bit counters configurable for up or down counting. Each counter features three inputs: Preload, Count Pulse, and Strobe.
Type B Configuration
Two identical, programmable bi-directional 32-bit counters operating in Up/Down, Pulse/Direction, or A Quad B mode. Each counter includes Preload and Disable inputs with two independent Strobe inputs and registers. Strobe linking capability allows a count on Counter 2 to strobe both Counter 1 and Counter 2 accumulators into Strobe 1 registers. Ideal for pulse rate measurement or pulse comparison applications.
Type C Configuration
Single differential bi-directional 32-bit counter with Disable input to suspend counting. Home cycle sets accumulator to predefined Home Position using Home Switch and Marker inputs. Supports two sets of differential counter inputs and configurable for Up/Down, Pulse/Direction, or A Quad B mode. Includes three Strobe registers and two Preload values.
Type D Configuration
Four bi-directional 32-bit counters counting in Up/Down, Pulse/Direction, A Quad B x1/x2/x4 modes. Each counter features a Marker input to set accumulator to Home Position and detects/reports quadrature errors in A Quad B mode.
Type E Configuration
Two identical 16-bit counters with Strobe and Preload inputs counting Up/Down or A Quad B signals. Includes Count Disable and Strobe Disable inputs. Primarily designed as a Down counter but supports up-counting for A Quad B jitter. Reaching zero triggers a dedicated preset output with 5 µs response time.
