Allen Bradley 1771-IK Encoder/Counter Module
The encoder/counter module maintains an independent count of input pulses, separate from the processor, typically originating from devices including quadrature encoders, high-speed optical beam counters, and certain types of switches.
This module makes decisions based on count totals by comparing them to pre-programmed values and activates one or both outputs according to comparison results. It also returns accumulated counts to the processor for arithmetic computations or display purposes.
Key Features
- Inputs for marker signals from encoders and voltage level signals from limit switches for home positioning
- Count direction can be changed via processor or external switch for speed-critical applications
- Maximum detectable input pulse frequency: 50 kHz
BCD Mode:
- Range: 000 to 999
- Provides carry and borrow bits for cascading counters in programming
Binary Mode:
- Range: 0000 to 4095
- Numbers appear at processor in binary format for higher count totals
Quadrature Encoder Enhancement
Times 2 Mode: Adds counts from both Channel A and Channel B for improved accuracy
Times 4 Mode: Counts rising and falling edges of both channels for fourfold count increase
Times 4 Mode: Counts rising and falling edges of both channels for fourfold count increase
