The encoder/counter module maintains an independent count of input pulses, separate from the processor, typically originating from devices including quadrature encoders, high-speed optical beam counters, and certain types of switches.
This module makes decisions based on count totals by comparing them to pre-programmed values and activates one or both outputs according to comparison results. It also returns accumulated counts to the processor for arithmetic computations or display purposes.
