The GE Series 90-70 IC697CMM741 Ethernet controller and interface connects to a transceiver device using a user-supplied transceiver cable or an AUI (Attachment Unit Interface) cable. The connection is made through the standard 15-pin D-type connector. The controller uses the cable and transceiver to link to the Ethernet LAN. Three LEDs on the controller show the status of the interface. The RAM in the IC697CMM741 is battery-backed and stores all communication software. The controller also contains ROM and firmware. These store the basic functions, configuration software, and diagnostic features used by the device.
Module and Installation
Single-slot module installed directly into IC697 CPU rack
Connects to Ethernet LAN via user-supplied transceiver cable
Transceiver attaches directly to IEEE 802.3 network cable
Ethernet Interface operates at 10 Mbps
Indicators and Power
Three LEDs indicate interface status
Battery-backed RAM maintains communications software during power outages
Firmware and Communications Software
Basic functions stored in ROM/firmware
Firmware includes self-test diagnostics and configuration/testing software for PLC and Ethernet LAN
Communications software can be loaded into RAM from GSM (serial or network) or MS-DOS/Windows OSI-Ethernet Programmer station
RAM storage allows upgrading communications software without replacing ROM chips
Configuration
Soft switches tailor the controller to the application
MS-DOS or Windows Configuration Software configures the controller in the IC697 PLC and sets soft switches
Three LEDs: Top front of controller. Visible through window in front door.
Default Station (MAC) Address Label: On outside of plastic housing. Used for network communications unless overridden by user.
Restart Button: Directly below LEDs.
Battery and Battery Holder: Right of LEDs, between Restart Button and serial port.
Local Serial Port: 9-pin female connector for RS-232 interface.
AUI Port: 15-pin female connector with slide-lock for transceiver cable. Located below the local serial port.
