Product Description
The Direct Communication Module (1747-DCM) connects any SLC 500 programmable controller with an expansion chassis or SLC 500 Modular Programmable Controller to a supervisory Allen-Bradley programmable controller via the RIO Link, providing a distributed processing system. The 1747-DCM enables these supervisory processors to transfer data between one another.
RIO Adapter Functionality
The 1747-DCM appears as an RIO adapter to:

The 1747-DCM can physically reside on the RIO Link with any other adapter and is compatible with all RIO scanners.
Connection Configuration
1747-DCM Modules are connected in a daisy-chain configuration using Belden 9463 cable.
The Direct Communication Module, Catalog Number 1747-DCM, is used to connect an SLC 500 Fixed Programmable Controller with expansion chassis or any SLC 500 Modular Programmable Controller to a supervisory Allen-Bradley Programmable Controller via the RIO Link, thereby providing a distributed processing system. The DCM occupies one slot in any SLC 500 chassis.

Installation Instructions
- Power: Disconnect before installation
- Placement: Align the module with chassis card guides. Do not install in slot 0 (reserved for the CPU)
- Insertion: Slide the module into the chassis until the top and bottom latches fully engage
- Cable Connection: Attach the RIO link cable to the front connector
- Cable Securing: Insert a cable tie into the slots and route the cable down and away from the module
- Unused Slots: Cover all unused slots with the Card Slot Filler, catalog number 1746-N2
