Product Description
The Allen-Bradley 1771-ACN15 is a ControlNet I/O Adapter Module for the 1771 PLC-5 system. It enables communication between I/O modules in the 1771 chassis and a ControlNet scanner port over a ControlNet network. This module features high-speed data transfer, diagnostic messaging capabilities, and includes a Network Access Port (NAP) for programming and maintenance access to the local communication network.
The 1771-ACN15 operates at a communication rate of 5 Mbps and requires a ControlNet PLC-5 controller. It must be installed in a remote ControlNet chassis and positioned in the leftmost slot. The module requires 1A at 5V DC backplane current, has a power dissipation of 5W, and thermal dissipation of 17.06 BTU/hr.
Keying bands between positions 54-56 on the upper connector and 16-18 on the lower connector prevent incorrect module insertion. For network connectivity, a quad-shield RG-6 coaxial cable is required. The module features one standard BNC connector and uses two switch assemblies (ten's switch and one's switch) to configure network addresses from 1 to 99.
For troubleshooting and diagnostics, the 1771-ACN15 includes an OK indicator, status indicator, alphanumeric display, and a Communication Reset Pushbutton to resume communication after errors, ensuring reliable network operation and simplified maintenance.

ControlNet Network Connection Procedure
You connect your 1771-ACN15 or -ACNR15 adapter module to a ControlNet network via taps. These taps are available:
- Remove the dust cap from the tap's straight or right-angle connector
- Remove and discard the dust caps from the adapter's BNC jacks
- Connect the tap to the adapter by plugging its connector into the adapter's BNC jack
- For redundant adapters (1771-ACNR15): remove (and save) the dust cap from the straight or right-angle connector on the second segment (segment 2)
- Connect this tap to the adapter's BNC jack for segment 2
- Once both segments are terminated, your node is ready to connect to the network
