The HART Communication Redundant Output Module (FBM218) contains eight channel-isolated outputs, providing an isolated power supply for each channel. It supports any mix of standard 4 to 20 mA devices and HART devices. To ensure system reliability, a pair of these modules combines to provide redundancy at the Fieldbus Module level, with field outputs wired to a single termination assembly. In this configuration, one FBM218 operates as the Master, and the other serves as the Tracker.
The FBM218 serves as a HART communications field device host, enabling the Foxboro Evo™ system to request and receive two digital messages per second from each field device. Its message pass-through capability is robust, supporting HART universal, common practice, and device-specific commands. Please note that while it handles these command types effectively, it does not support burst communication mode.
For system integration, these commands are implemented using the Intelligent Field Device Configurator FoxCom™ and HART™ Protocols (IFDC -- refer to PSS 21S-8A2 B3 for details). This setup allows for seamless configuration and management of the connected field devices within the control architecture.
Versatile Output: Contains eight channel-isolated outputs supporting standard 4-20 mA or Digital HART FSK signals
Redundancy: A module pair configuration offers full redundancy at the FBM level for critical applications
Dedicated Communication: Features a dedicated FSK modem on each channel for robust bi-directional communication with HART field devices
Safety First: Provides galvanic isolation of all output channels from each other, ground, and module logic
System Integration: Full support for HART universal commands to interface field devices with the Foxboro Evo system database
Industrial Grade: Built with a rugged design suitable for Class G3 (harsh) environments
Easy Connection: Uses Termination Assemblies (TAs) for locally or remotely connecting field wiring
System Integration Details
Connection Interface: Field output signals connect to the FBM subsystem via DIN rail mounted Termination Assemblies. These units are electrically passive and available in Compression screw type forms using Polyamide material.
The Link (Cables): A removable termination cable connects the TA to the FBM via a field connector on the baseplate. Materials: Polyurethane or Low Smoke Zero Halogen (LSZH). Mounting Flexibility: Cables come in a variety of lengths up to 30 meters (98 feet). This allows the Termination Assembly to be mounted in either the main enclosure or in an adjacent one.
HART Accessibility: The system is designed for easy maintenance: The FBM218 provides sufficient loop resistance to allow use of the HART Hand-Held Terminal or PC20 Intelligent Field Device Configurator.
