Compatibility & Replacement

01

Original-System Compatibility

Requires an IMAMM03 master and connects through the slave expander bus. ABB/Bailey documentation identifies NTAI03, NTAI04 and NIAI03 termination hardware for the RTD field wiring.

02

Historical Replacement

ABB evolution information places the AMM/ASM family on an engineered migration path to the IMASI23 Universal Analog Input Module. This requires an MFP or later controller and configuration changes; IMASI23 is not a direct slot-for-slot replacement.

04

Applications & Fault Scenarios

  • Temperature monitoring using platinum, nickel or copper three-wire RTDs.
  • Boiler, turbine, motor, bearing and process-equipment temperature measurement in INFI 90 systems.
  • Maintenance searches commonly involve an open or miswired RTD, incorrect slave address, failed expander-bus communication, termination damage or calibration drift.
  • Loss of one slave can remove eight temperature points and may trigger alarms, protective logic or a controlled shutdown.
05

Configuration & Installation

  • Set S1 to the required group address from 0 through 7 and make sure it matches the master configuration.
  • Connect P2 to the slave expander bus and P3 to the specified NTAI03/NTAI04/NIAI03 field termination.
  • Verify RTD material, resistance curve and three-wire lead arrangement before energizing the input group.
06

Calibration & Diagnostics

  • The manual provides an RTD calibration procedure using precision reference resistances; use calibrated equipment and the specified external or internal method.
  • A front status LED supports initial fault isolation. A group fault should also be checked at the master, expander bus and termination before exchange.
  • Recheck all eight points after replacement to detect swapped leads, wrong RTD curves or an address conflict.
07

Maintenance

  • At six-month intervals or during shutdown, inspect calibration and connections and remove dust with static-safe equipment.
  • Replace a failed module with the same S1 and jumper settings; field component repair is not the manufacturer's service method.

FAQ

01How should IMASM03 be installed?
Confirm the group address, master configuration, termination type and three-wire RTD lead order. Reproduce all switch and jumper settings and validate the complete eight-point group after installation.
02Can IMASM03 be directly replaced by IMASI23?
No. ABB describes a system evolution that requires an MFP or later controller, configuration changes and a review of termination and channel mapping.
03What should be configured for IMASM03 RTD inputs?
Select the correct slave group and the exact RTD material and characteristic for each point. A wrong curve or lead arrangement can produce believable but inaccurate temperatures.
04How should IMASM03 be calibrated and protected from ESD?
Handle it with a grounded wrist strap and antistatic packaging. Use traceable reference resistances and the documented calibration procedure, then verify the complete measurement chain rather than adjusting from a process reading alone.
05What delivery and warranty support is available for IMASM03?
Each unit is function-checked where suitable test facilities are available and packed in an antistatic bag with protective cushioning. DOA, return and exchange requests are handled under the written order terms after evidence and technical evaluation. Warranty covers confirmed supply defects during the agreed period, excluding misuse, incorrect installation, ESD damage, improper storage and unauthorized repair.
06What information is needed for an IMASM03 RFQ?
Please provide the Part Number, Quantity, Destination, Required Date and Machine/System Model. The master-module type, termination number and RTD types are useful for a compatibility check.

Technical statements are limited to verified ABB/Bailey manufacturer documentation. Installation must follow the plant safety procedure and the documentation for the installed system revision.
