Compatibility & Replacement

01

Original-System Compatibility

Designed for Symphony Plus Harmony Rack digital input service. The ABB evolution map carries legacy digital-input applications through FC84; exact rack, termination and field-voltage details must be taken from the installed cabinet drawings.

02

Historical Replacement

ABB identifies SPDSI22 as the HR replacement for IMDSI02, IMDSI12, IMDSI13, IMDSI14, IMDSI15 and IMDSI22. For an input-only IMDSM05 migration, ABB requires a dipshunt change and reversed field-wire polarity; a mixed-I/O or Digital Logic Station application has no direct replacement in that mapping.

04

Applications & Fault Scenarios

  • Status and alarm inputs from contacts, limit switches, relays, breakers and interlocks.
  • Mixed plant standards where individual channels require documented 24 VDC, 48 VDC, 125 VDC or 120 VAC configuration.
  • Maintenance searches commonly follow a wrong AC/DC or voltage selection, FC84/address mismatch, missing input, field-polarity error, bus fault or termination problem.
  • Loss of interlock or protection indications can block starts, force conservative logic states or extend downtime while the field circuit is proved.
05

Configuration & Installation

  • Program every channel for its actual field-voltage class and verify the FC84/module-address mapping.
  • When replacing IMDSI02, note the legacy termination restriction: inputs 7/8 and 15/16 share commons in the mapped arrangement and each pair must use the same voltage source.
  • When migrating an input-only IMDSM05, complete the ABB-specified dipshunt and field-polarity changes before energizing the inputs.
06

Diagnostics & Maintenance

  • Compare the module indication and controller point quality with the measured field voltage before replacing the input module.
  • If a whole group is missing, inspect module power, rack communication, address, termination common and cable connection.
  • Preserve the original channel-voltage schedule and use grounded ESD controls during exchange.
07

Migration Notes

  • HR mapping covers the listed IMDSI models through SPDSI22.
  • SD-series migration depends on field-voltage class; mixed high- and low-voltage points may require more than one SD module.
  • Mixed IMDSM05 I/O or a Digital Logic Station function requires a separate engineering solution.

FAQ

01How should SPDSI22 be installed?
Confirm the rack slot, address, FC84 configuration, termination and field-voltage class for all 16 channels. Isolate field sources as required and verify polarity and shared-common restrictions before energizing.
02Can SPDSI22 replace IMDSI02 or IMDSM05 directly?
ABB maps it as the HR replacement for the listed IMDSI modules. An input-only IMDSM05 migration additionally requires a dipshunt change and reversed field-wire polarity; mixed I/O or Digital Logic Station use is not a direct replacement.
03What must be configured on SPDSI22?
Set each channel to the actual 24 VDC, 48 VDC, 125 VDC or 120 VAC class and match the module address and FC84 data to the controller database.
04How should SPDSI22 be maintained and protected from ESD?
Use a grounded wrist strap and antistatic packaging. During troubleshooting, prove the field voltage, common, polarity, termination and point quality before removing the module.
05What delivery and warranty support is available for SPDSI22?
Each unit is function-checked where suitable test facilities are available and packed in an antistatic bag with protective cushioning. DOA, return and exchange requests are handled under the written order terms after evidence and technical evaluation. Warranty covers confirmed supply defects during the agreed period, excluding misuse, incorrect installation, ESD damage, improper storage and unauthorized repair.
06What information is needed for an SPDSI22 RFQ?
Please provide the Part Number, Quantity, Destination, Required Date and Machine/System Model. Include the legacy module number, field-voltage schedule and termination type for migration orders.

Technical statements are limited to verified ABB/Bailey manufacturer documentation. Installation must follow the plant safety procedure and the documentation for the installed system revision.
