Compatibility & Replacement

01

Original-System Compatibility

Works with IMASM01, IMASM02, IMASM03 and IMASM04 analog slave modules. P1 carries module-bus power and communication, P2 connects the slave expander bus, and P3 supports redundant-master or termination arrangements. NTAM01 and NIAM02 hardware is used in documented redundancy, indicator-station and thermocouple arrangements.

02

Historical Replacement

ABB evolution material states that the AMM/ASM family can be evolved to the IMASI23 Universal Analog Input Module. This is a system migration, not a drop-in swap: an MFP or later controller and minor configuration changes are required.

04

Applications & Fault Scenarios

  • Mixed high-level, thermocouple, millivolt and RTD acquisition in process control systems.
  • Signal linearization, cold-junction compensation, engineering-unit conversion, trending, alarms and exception reporting.
  • Maintenance searches commonly follow a failed primary/backup handover, missing slave group, bad point quality, calibration drift, memory diagnostic or configuration mismatch.
  • Failure of the master can remove multiple analog groups at once; without working redundancy, this can stop control sequences or extend an outage.
05

Redundancy

  • A backup master can take control using current process data so processing and control continue without interruption.
  • Documented redundancy uses the P3 connection and the specified NTAM01/NIAM02 arrangement; duplicate the primary module's configuration and cable topology exactly.
  • Up to four NDIS01 indicator stations, serving up to 12 points, are supported in the documented architecture.
06

Configuration & Installation

  • S2 selects run/diagnostic functions and the module address; S1 is the reset switch.
  • P1 is the module-bus interface, P2 is the slave expander bus, and P3 is used for redundancy or termination, depending on the installation.
  • After replacement, load the required configuration into the new master before returning the loop set to service.
07

Diagnostics & Maintenance

  • Five front-panel LEDs report operating mode and normal/error status; built-in tests cover memory, timing, communication and redundancy functions.
  • At six-month intervals or during a shutdown, calibrate as required, tighten and clean power/ground connections, and remove dust with static-safe vacuum equipment.
  • The manufacturer procedure replaces a faulty module rather than repairing components in the field. Preserve all switch, jumper, cable and slot information before exchange.

FAQ

01How should IMAMM03 be installed after a failure?
Record the slot, S2 address, cable positions, slave arrangement and redundancy wiring before removal. Fit the replacement with the same settings, then load and verify the required configuration before restoring the analog groups.
02Can IMAMM03 be replaced by IMASI23 without other changes?
No. ABB describes this as an engineered evolution path requiring an MFP or later controller and minor configuration changes. Termination, channel mapping and outage planning must be reviewed first.
03What must be configured on IMAMM03?
Set the module address and operating mode, define the attached slave groups and input functions, and make sure the backup master carries the matching database when redundancy is used.
04What maintenance and ESD controls apply to IMAMM03?
Use a grounded wrist strap and antistatic packaging. At the scheduled interval, check calibration, power and ground connections, clean the cabinet with static-safe equipment and investigate LED or diagnostic results before replacing hardware.
05What delivery and warranty support is available for IMAMM03?
Each unit is function-checked where suitable test facilities are available and packed in an antistatic bag with protective cushioning. DOA, return and exchange requests are handled under the written order terms after evidence and technical evaluation. Warranty covers confirmed supply defects during the agreed period, excluding misuse, incorrect installation, ESD damage, improper storage and unauthorized repair.
06What information is needed for an IMAMM03 RFQ?
Please provide the Part Number, Quantity, Destination, Required Date and Machine/System Model. Also include the slave-module mix, controller type and a clear nameplate photo when available.

Technical statements are limited to verified ABB/Bailey manufacturer documentation. Installation must follow the plant safety procedure and the documentation for the installed system revision.
