You’ll see this probe quite often in heavy rotating equipment setups.
Common machinery includes:
It’s mainly used for shaft vibration, axial displacement, and sometimes Keyphasor speed/phase reference signals. In real plant environments, this kind of probe is usually part of continuous condition monitoring rather than standalone measurement.
The probe is designed to work as part of the Bently Nevada 3300 XL system architecture.
Typical matching components:
In most installations, it forms a full chain from probe → extension cable → Proximitor → 3500 rack monitoring system, depending on how the protection loop is configured.
The 330104-03-06-05-02-00 is basically a Bently Nevada 3300 XL 8 mm proximity probe, M10×1 thread type.
Most of the code is just configuration detail.
03 = 30 mm unthreaded section.
06 = 60 mm case length.
05 = 0.5 m cable.
02 = ClickLoc connector with stainless armor.
00 = no approval marking.
In actual use, people usually just check “does it match the probe type and length”, not the full breakdown every time.
It sits in the 3300 XL system, so compatibility is quite standard. Since there’s already a short built-in cable (0.5 m), it normally goes with a 3300 XL extension cable like 330130-045-XX-XX, then into a 3300 XL Proximitor Sensor (330180 series). Nothing special here — just matching total loop length for the system. Most site engineers treat it as a routine probe setup.
Calibration is done on AISI 4140 steel, standard target. When installed properly in its linear range (around 2 mm gap), and used with a correct 3300 XL Proximitor, the output sits around 7.87 V/mm (200 mV/mil). This is what the system uses for radial vibration and shaft position readings. Nothing really changes unless the setup is off.
The 02 armored cable version is mainly for protection. Stainless steel armor around the coax core. That’s it. In turbine or compressor areas, cables get oil splash, vibration, sometimes abrasion from metal edges — this layer just prevents physical damage over time. It’s more about durability than performance.
Not directly into the rack.Signal path is always the same: probe → 3300 XL Proximitor → then into 3500 system modules like 3500/42M or 3500/40. After that, it becomes part of the protection loop inside the Bently Nevada 3500 rack system. Usually used for API 670 machinery protection, but from wiring side, it’s just a standard chain.
