The selection guide lists the WC009 brake chopper in a separate catalog-number column. Confirm the supplied kit contents and required system components against the applicable drive configuration.
The drive rating range is the selection-guide association for this kit. Brake selection must also account for the motor, load inertia, deceleration cycle and braking energy. Do not select a brake kit by drive horsepower alone.

02 / Operating Principle

Dynamic Braking Function

Managing Regenerated Motor Energy

During deceleration, an induction motor may operate as a generator when the rotor turns faster than the synchronous speed established by the drive output. Mechanical energy from the rotating load is then returned as electrical energy to the drive DC bus.

A dynamic braking assembly provides a path for dissipating this regenerated energy through a braking resistor. This helps the drive control deceleration and increases the available braking torque when the brake is correctly selected for the application.

Braking System Role

The brake kit works as an accessory to a compatible 1336 drive. It is not a standalone motor controller or a replacement for the drive itself.

The manufacturer's heavy-duty dynamic braking documentation states that this option can increase drive braking torque capability by up to 100%.

01 / Deceleration The drive reduces the commanded motor speed.
02 / Energy Return The rotating motor and load may regenerate energy to the DC bus.
03 / Energy Dissipation The dynamic brake circuit dissipates braking energy through the resistor.

03 / Industrial Application

Application & Failure Scenarios

Where the Brake Kit Is Used

This kit is intended for applicable Allen-Bradley 1336 drive installations where dynamic braking is required. It is relevant to motor-driven machinery with deceleration cycles that return energy to the drive DC bus.

Why Maintenance Teams Search for This Part

A maintenance team may look for this catalog number when the existing brake assembly has a blown fuse, a brake fault contact has opened, the braking function is unavailable, or the machine cannot achieve its required deceleration behavior.

Downtime Considerations

Loss of the required braking function can affect machine stopping performance and interrupt the production cycle.

Before ordering, compare the installed catalog number, drive voltage, drive rating, brake resistor requirements and application braking cycle.

04 / Installation & Maintenance

Installation & Diagnostic Considerations

Catalog Verification Check the KC005 designation and confirm the drive voltage and rating against the selection guide.
Fuse Inspection Check the specified F1 fuse and investigate the reason for fuse failure before replacement.
Fault Contact The brake fault contact can provide a remote signal to a compatible 1336 interface or PLC.
Wiring Separation Keep DC brake power wiring and control wiring in separate conduits as specified in the installation instructions.

The installation publication identifies fuse failure and brake thermostat trip as conditions that can open the brake fault contact. Use the applicable wiring diagrams and safety procedures for the installed system.
