3300 XL 8 mm Proximity Probe

Standard Mount Miniature ClickLoc CSA / ATEX / IECEx Option
01
Product Overview

Non-Contact Shaft Measurement

The 330101 series belongs to the Bently Nevada 3300 XL proximity probe family. It operates as the sensing element in an eddy-current proximity transducer system, detecting the distance between the probe tip and a conductive target.

In a configured monitoring system, the probe supports dynamic vibration and static position measurements. The 3300 XL 8 mm system can also be used for Keyphasor reference and speed measurements when configured for the intended monitoring function.

Additional Electrical and System Reference Data
Nominal Probe DC ResistanceFor a 2.0 m probe: 7.88 ± 0.50 Ω, measured from center conductor to outer conductor.
System Linear Range2 mm (80 mils) for the 3300 XL 8 mm transducer system.
System Scale Factor7.87 V/mm (200 mV/mil) for standard 5 m or 1 m systems under the datasheet's stated conditions.
Recommended Radial Vibration Gap−9 Vdc, approximately 1.27 mm (50 mils), at the Proximitor output.
System Frequency Response0 to 10 kHz, +0 / −3 dB, with up to 305 m (1,000 ft) of field wiring.
Probe PressureThe probe is designed to seal differential pressure between the probe tip and case. Probes are not pressure-tested before shipment.

Linear range, scale factor, gap and frequency-response values describe the complete transducer system under specified test conditions, not the probe as an independent electrical instrument.

04
Measurement System

Application & System Integration

Probe

Installed facing a conductive machine target to sense relative movement and position.

Extension Cable

Connects the probe to the matching Proximitor Sensor as part of the transducer system.

Proximitor Sensor

Converts the proximity measurement into an output signal for the machinery monitoring channel.

The 3300 XL 8 mm system is commonly applied to vibration and position monitoring on fluid-film bearing machines. Keyphasor reference and speed measurement are possible when the system is configured for those functions.
05
Application & Failure Scenarios

Probe Replacement Situations

On turbines, compressors, pumps and other rotating machinery using fluid-film bearings, proximity measurements help monitoring systems track shaft vibration and position. A failed or unstable signal can reduce the reliability of machine condition data and complicate protection or maintenance decisions.

01
Unstable shaft vibration or position readings

A damaged probe, cable or connector can cause an abnormal measurement channel and make it harder to distinguish actual machine movement from instrumentation faults.

02
Loss of proximity signal

An open, shorted or mechanically damaged sensing path may interrupt monitoring input, leaving the affected shaft measurement unavailable.

03
Probe or cable damage during maintenance

Thread damage, cable strain or connector problems can require replacement before the machine monitoring channel is returned to service.

Installation note: Observe the specified thread engagement limit and cable bend radius. The datasheet recommends 11.2 N·m case torque for standard forward-mounted probes; the maximum rated torque is 33.9 N·m.
06
Selection & Compatibility

Replacement Configuration Checks

Probe Assembly Compare the complete installed probe configuration and mounting arrangement.
Connected Components Check the extension cable and Proximitor Sensor combination.
Site Requirements Review hazardous-area approval and installation requirements.

The 3300 XL 8 mm datasheet describes backward interchangeability with specified non-XL 3300 5 mm and 8 mm components. Mixing XL and non-XL components limits performance to the non-XL system specifications; confirm the complete installed combination before replacement.

Product FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Which dimensions are represented by the 00 and 08 ordering positions?
The 00 position identifies 0.0 in unthreaded length, while 08 identifies 0.8 in overall probe case length.
2. How is the 2.0 m probe length defined?
The 20 ordering position identifies the total probe length, including the integral probe cable.
3. Are the Proximitor Sensor and extension cable included?
No. The ordered part is the probe. A complete 3300 XL 8 mm proximity transducer system consists of a probe, extension cable and Proximitor Sensor, subject to the system configuration.
4. Which approvals are associated with the 05 option?
The 05 option identifies the CSA, ATEX and IECEx approval option in the ordering information. Installation must still follow the applicable approval conditions and control drawings.
5. What should be checked before installing a replacement?
Check the complete part number, thread and mounting arrangement, probe cable length, connector option, approval requirements and the extension cable / Proximitor Sensor combination in the installed monitoring system.
