Event-Recording 24 V Input

ABB DI840 is a 16-channel, 24 VDC digital input module for single or redundant S800 I/O applications. It combines current-sinking inputs with supervised, current-limited transducer power. Its Sequence of Events function records transitions at 1 ms resolution and uses a queue of up to 257 events.

Redundant Termination & System Fit

ABB-listed MTUs

TU810, TU812, TU814, TU818, TU830, TU833, TU838, TU842, TU843 and TU852. ABB lists keying code CD.

Redundant hardware choices

ABB identifies DI840 for single or redundant use. TU842, TU843 and TU852 are among the listed termination options used in redundant S800 arrangements.

ABB does not designate a direct replacement for DI840. Preserve the 24 V input type, SOE behavior, sensor-power supervision, redundancy arrangement, MTU selection and keying when planning a change.

SOE Applications & Diagnostic Scenarios

Trip and interlock chronology

Collect supported 24 V status transitions when event order matters for post-trip analysis.

Redundant input stations

Use in ABB-documented single or redundant S800 I/O configurations with the corresponding termination and system engineering.

SOE queue pressure

If event sequences appear incomplete, review the event rate, the 257-event queue, the Shutter filter and upstream event handling.

Sensor-power problem

When paired channels lose their field devices, inspect the supervised, current-limited transducer-power output and process-power diagnostics.

SOE & Redundancy Commissioning

01Verify time handling

Confirm that the controller and event-collection path are engineered for the required SOE behavior.

02Set input filtering

Choose the 0–127 ms digital filter without masking the transitions that must be recorded.

03Review Shutter filtering

Apply the event filter only with a clear rule for suppressing unwanted transitions.

04Test redundancy and diagnostics

Prove the selected hardware path, process-power supervision, event order and module/channel alarms.

SOE resolution at the module is only one part of the chronology. Validate the complete event path, filtering and time handling during commissioning.

DI840 FAQ

What SOE resolution does DI840 provide?

ABB specifies 1 ms resolution and event-recording accuracy from 0 ms to +1.3 ms. The event queue can contain up to 257 events.

Can DI840 be used in a redundant configuration?

Yes. ABB identifies both single and redundant applications. The complete hardware arrangement must use the applicable listed MTU and system configuration.

How is DI840 sensor power arranged?

The module provides supervised, current-limited transducer power with one output serving each pair of input channels.

Which MTUs are listed for DI840?

ABB lists TU810, TU812, TU814, TU818, TU830, TU833, TU838, TU842, TU843 and TU852. The keying code is CD.

What can cause missing DI840 event records?

Check input filtering, Shutter-filter settings, event rate against queue capacity and the upstream controller or historian event path.

What should an RFQ for DI840 include?

Provide the full part number, quantity, destination, required date and machine or system model. Add the installed MTU, SOE requirement and redundancy mode.
