RTD Module Overview

ABB AI830A accepts Pt100, Cu10, Ni100, Ni120 and compatible resistive sensors. Each channel is configured individually, with module linearization and Celsius or Fahrenheit conversion. ABB lists AI830A in the S800 remote I/O assortment for Freelance, with eight channels for Pt100, Ni100, Ni120, Cu10 and 0–400 Ω resistance measurement.

The reviewed ABB sources do not identify a direct replacement for AI830A. Sensor type, three-wire field wiring, grounding, range, keying and controller hardware definition must all be checked before any substitution.

Process temperature measurement

Use Pt100, Ni100, Ni120 or Cu10 elements for machinery, utilities and process temperatures within the engineered sensor range.

Resistance monitoring

Acquire compatible resistive sensors or potentiometer signals through three-wire connections where the field device remains isolated from ground.

Open or shorted sensor loop

Use the channel diagnostic to identify a wiring break or short, then verify field continuity and terminal condition before module replacement.

Unstable or biased temperature
