05 / Product Introduction

Control execution and mixed field I/O on one module

IMCOM03 reads process signals, executes the configured control strategy and drives analog and digital outputs. It is especially relevant where a single legacy controller card carries both logic and direct field connections.

01

Input acquisition

Accepts four analog inputs and three digital inputs through the selected termination assembly.

02

Control strategy

Executes configured function blocks to monitor and control the process.

03

Output actuation

Provides two analog outputs and four isolated open-collector digital outputs.

02 / Termination & Wiring

Select the field interface already used by the installation

The controller supports two documented termination paths. Match the installed termination product and cable rather than selecting the controller card in isolation.

01

NICS01 termination module

Handles the four analog inputs, two analog outputs, three digital inputs and four digital outputs; connects with NKTM01 or NKTU02.

02

NTCS02 termination unit

Provides the alternative field termination arrangement and connects through NKTU01.

03

Signal-range match

Analog points must agree with the configured 1–5 VDC or 4–20 mA range, and digital wiring must match the installed termination design.

03 / Configuration & Commissioning

Function blocks define how the controller uses each signal

The hardware does not determine the control strategy by itself. The saved module configuration is required to restore the same input processing, logic and output behavior after replacement.

1Back up the configurationSave the complete function-block strategy and tuning values before removing the module.
2Label every field channelKeep AI, DI, AO and DO wiring identities aligned with the termination points.
3Verify signal typesConfirm voltage/current ranges and the digital input supply used by the installed design.
4Commission outputs safelyProve analog and digital outputs under controlled process conditions before returning automatic control.
04 / Diagnostics & Maintenance

The front LED gives the first controller-health clue

Use the LED together with module status and termination checks to distinguish a bus problem, disabled module, power loss or field-side fault.

Fault isolation sequence

  • Green indicates the controller is enabled and communicating.
  • Red identifies a bus error that should be investigated before field wiring.
  • An unlit LED points to loss of power or a module that is not enabled.
  • For a single bad point, check the matching termination channel and field circuit.
05 / Compatibility & Replacement

A direct replacement for Network 90 NCOM03

The original manufacturer instruction identifies IMCOM03 as the direct replacement for NCOM03. The installed termination, cable, signal ranges and saved control configuration must still be carried across correctly.

07 / Applications & Fault Scenarios

Operational problems that point toward IMCOM03

01

Several mixed I/O points fail together

Loss of multiple inputs and outputs can indicate controller, bus, power or termination-cable trouble.

02

Controller shows a red status LED

The module reports a bus error and the rack communication path needs investigation.

10 / FAQ

IMCOM03 questions from buyers and maintenance teams

What is ABB Bailey IMCOM03 used for?

It executes a configured control strategy while directly handling four analog inputs, three digital inputs, two analog outputs and four digital outputs.

Which termination hardware works with ABB Bailey IMCOM03?

The original instruction documents NICS01 with NKTM01 or NKTU02 cables, or NTCS02 with an NKTU01 cable.

What analog signal ranges does ABB Bailey IMCOM03 support?

The four inputs and two outputs support 1–5 VDC or 4–20 mA signal ranges.

What does a red LED mean on ABB Bailey IMCOM03?

A solid red front status LED indicates a bus error. A solid green LED indicates enabled communication.

Does ABB Bailey IMCOM03 replace NCOM03?

Yes. The manufacturer instruction identifies IMCOM03 as the direct replacement for the Network 90 NCOM03 controller.

What must be preserved before replacing ABB Bailey IMCOM03?

Save the function-block configuration and tuning values, identify the termination and cable, label all field channels and document each signal range.
