ABB INICT12 Cnet-to-Computer Transfer Module

The transfer processor in an INICI12 computer interface, built to move Cnet data to a host through two RS-232-C channels. It maintains a 10,000-point definition database and uses a command-driven receive, execute and reply cycle for host transactions.

04 / Product Introduction

The host-facing processor in an INICI12 interface

INICT12 is not a standalone Ethernet gateway. It works with INNIS01 on the Cnet side and NTMP01 on the serial host side, so a correct spare decision starts with the complete INICI12 assembly.

01

Collects Cnet data

Receives system information through the companion INNIS01 network interface.

02

Maintains a point database

Supports up to 10,000 configured point definitions for host access.

03

Serves host commands

Receives a command, executes the requested operation and returns the reply over RS-232-C.

02 / Host Interface

A disciplined command cycle for supervisory access

INICT12 supports host functions without replacing the control system's controller execution. The host requests information or an allowed action, and the module returns a response.

01

Data acquisition

Makes configured Cnet point data available to the host computer.

02

Monitoring and control

Supports documented supervisory monitoring and command functions.

03

System services

Handles security, time synchronization, status and module-configuration transactions used by the interface.

03 / Serial Wiring & Commissioning

NTMP01 jumpers determine the DTE or DCE connection

A correct RS-232-C cable can still fail if the termination-unit jumper role does not match the host equipment. Treat the NTMP01 setup as part of the interface.

1Identify the host port roleRecord which serial channel is connected to the computer and how the second port is used.
2Verify DTE/DCE jumpersMatch NTMP01 to the host or modem connection before changing cables.
3Match the data rateConfirm the selected rate at both ends, up to the documented 19.2 kbaud maximum.
4Retain the point configurationBack up the point definition and interface settings before hardware work.
04 / Compatibility Boundary

Conductor VMS uses a different documented interface path

ABB's rack communication data states that a Conductor VMS workstation uses IIMCP02 with IIMLM01 rather than INICI03 or INICI12. This distinction matters when the host platform is being identified for a spare request.

Use INICT12 when

The installed assembly is INICI12 and the host path is the documented two-port serial computer interface.

06 / Applications & Fault Scenarios

Common INICT12 maintenance and purchasing cases

01

Host data stops updating

The computer loses fresh Cnet values while controller-side process execution continues.

02

Serial commands time out

DTE/DCE jumpers, cable, data rate, host settings or transfer-module status interrupt the receive/reply cycle.

03

Point database recovery

A replacement is being prepared together with the saved 10,000-point interface configuration.

09 / FAQ

INICT12 questions from buyers and maintenance teams

What is ABB INICT12 used for?

It is the host-transfer processor in an INICI12 interface, moving configured Cnet data and commands between the control network and a serial computer.

How many points can ABB INICT12 define?

The documented interface capacity is 10,000 point definitions.

Which termination unit is used with ABB INICT12?

NTMP01 terminates the two RS-232-C channels and provides the jumper selection for DTE or DCE operation.

Which network module works with ABB INICT12?

INNIS01 supplies the Cnet-side network interface for the INICI12 assembly.

Is ABB INICT12 the documented interface for a Conductor VMS workstation?

No. ABB identifies IIMCP02 with IIMLM01 for Conductor VMS rather than an INICI03 or INICI12 interface.

What should be checked when ABB INICT12 host communication fails?

Check INNIS01 status, NTMP01 DTE/DCE jumpers, serial cable, configured data rate, host settings and the saved point database.
