Product Description
This fully compatible Allen-Bradley SLC 500 series module features eight (8) current output channels capable of generating 0-20 mA and 4-20 mA signals with 16-bit ADC resolution. Designed for industrial automation applications, this module drives modulating devices including control valves, variable frequency drives (VFDs), positioners, and similar equipment.
The module also supports signal retransmission to panel meters, data loggers, recorders, or as input to other PLC-based and single-loop controllers. The 1746SC-NO8I consumes 120 mA at 5 VDC and 240 mA at 24 VDC from the backplane and occupies a single chassis slot.
Installation & Compatibility
Can be installed in any available slot except slot 0 (reserved for CPU), and may be installed in local or remote I/O racks as part of distributed I/O systems. Features a removable terminal block (RTB) mounted on the front panel for simplified troubleshooting and maintenance without disturbing existing wiring. Note: Does not support removable insertion under power (RIUP).
Wiring Specifications
Requires a small Phillips screwdriver and Belden 8761 cable. The 18-position terminal block doesn't need removal for normal operation. For maintenance removal, verify proper grounding and power shutdown. Field wiring should be routed away from other wiring, motors, transformers, and AC devices, crossing power or AC cables at right angles. Each terminal supports maximum two wires up to 14 AWG with recommended terminal screw torque of 7 to 9 lb-in.

This module serves as the command interface between PLC logic and physical process actuators:
- Actuator Drive: Direct modulation of control valves, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), and electro-pneumatic positioners
- Signal Mirroring: Retransmission of process variables to secondary hardware including:
- Local panel meters and digital displays
- SCADA-linked data loggers and circular chart recorders
- Cascaded inputs for secondary single-loop or PID controllers
