The IC697ALG230 is a base converter module from the Series 90-70 PLC platform. It provides eight differential inputs, each configurable for voltage or current signals, including 4-20 mA current outputs and -10 VDC / +10 VDC voltage outputs with 16-bit resolution. The module includes low-pass filters on each channel and opto-isolation to protect the PLC backplane. It supports differential wiring, which measures signals between two reference wires for better resistance to EMI, making it ideal for applications requiring precise measurements. A removable 40-terminal block and a door insert allow easy connection and labeling of inputs.
The module works seamlessly with Series 90-70 expander modules—IC697ALG440 (Voltage) and IC697ALG441 (Current)—allowing up to seven expanders to be connected for a total of 120 input channels. Each input can be individually scaled, and the module features a fast update rate of 2.4-2.8 milliseconds. It has a serial communication port for controlling expanders via the CPU and a switching circuit that links the base and expander modules to the analog-to-digital converter. CPU alarms and per-channel fault reporting provide additional monitoring and reliability.
Configuration is done through MS-DOS or Windows software, enabling users to set up each input to match the application needs. The software also allows modification of configuration parameters directly through PLC ladder logic. Technical Operation Details
Signal Input
Accepts analog signals up to ±10 V full scale or 4-20 mA current loop signals. Inputs are delivered from field devices to the module via the removable terminal board.
Data Conversion
Inputs are converted to digital form for use by the CPU or other controllers via the VME backplane. Conversion format: 2's complement (sign + 15 bits). Base converter resolution: 14-bit, enhanced using oversampling and averaging techniques for higher accuracy.
