Product Description
The ModBus and Rack Interface Module delivers high reliability for critical rotating machinery applications. It reads parameters from all AMS 6500 modules and outputs these parameters via ModBus TCP/IP and/or ModBus RTU (serial). This 1-slot monitor works with other AMS 6500 monitors to build a complete API 670 machinery protection monitoring system. Applications include steam turbines, gas turbines, compressors, and hydro turbo machinery.
Operators gain access to machinery health parameters in the control environment for seamless integration. The module powers local graphical displays at the protection rack for machine and instrumentation readout. Both ModBus TCP/IP and ModBus RTU can be configured individually or used simultaneously for redundant communication paths.
The AMS 6500 is an integral component of PlantWeb® and AMS software ecosystems. PlantWeb provides integrated machinery health monitoring combined with Ovation® and DeltaV™ process control systems. AMS software equips maintenance personnel with advanced predictive and performance diagnostic tools to accurately identify machine malfunctions at early stages.

Legacy System Upgrade Path
Many clients operate critical turbines on the legacy MMS 6000 system. While this hardware is legendary, spare parts availability is becoming increasingly limited.
The Evolution Path
Upgrading from MMS 6000 to AMS 6500 ATG provides enhanced visibility and predictive capabilities:
- Old Way (MMS 6000): "The machine tripped. We don't know why."
- New Way (AMS 6500): "The machine is going to trip next week because bearing #2 has an inner race defect."
