The infrastructure behind the I/O rack
FC-IO-0002 belongs to the Honeywell Safety Manager Advanced Redundancy Technique (A.R.T.) hardware family. Installed inside the I/O chassis, it distributes the internal 5 VDC supply and watchdog signals required by the connected safety I/O boards.
It does not measure process signals, add field channels or perform protocol conversion. This distinction matters when assessing spares: a signal module, fieldbus interface or general-purpose I/O expansion module cannot be assumed to replace it.

Up to 18 non-redundant I/O modules. Two FC-IO-0002 extenders occupy slots 20 and 21.

Up to nine redundant I/O pairs. Two FC-IO-0002 extenders occupy slots 20 and 21.
Associated architecture: FS-IOB-0002S / FS-IOB-0002R backplanes; FS-IOBUS-HB2S / FS-IOBUS-HB2R horizontal I/O bus backplanes; FC-IOBUS-HB2A transfer board; FC-PDB-ARTF05 fused 5 VDC and watchdog distribution board.
Safety Manager installations include safety instrumented functions such as emergency shutdown and fire-and-gas protection in LNG, refining, petrochemical and other process facilities. FC-IO-0002 supports the chassis infrastructure; installed I/O boards provide the field channels.
No public part-level successor identified
Honeywell’s current Safety Manager page and R162 manual still document the platform, while the TÜV revision list marks FC-IO-0002 as valid. No public Honeywell notice reviewed states a part-level EOL date or drop-in successor.
Before replacement: verify the revision, FC-IOCHAS-0002S/R chassis, slots 20/21, backplane, bus board, 5 VDC/watchdog load and Safety Manager release. Do not assume interchangeability.

What does FC-IO-0002 do?

Does it provide analog or digital field channels?
No. It is an extender and distribution module, not an AI, AO, DI or DO signal module.

Honeywell lists it in FC-IOCHAS-0002S and FC-IOCHAS-0002R, with two modules in slots 20 and 21.
Is it discontinued, and is there a direct replacement?
