Designed for the legacy 1771 Universal I/O platform, the 1771-NIS operates as an 8-channel sourcing analog card for PLC-5, PLC-3, and PLC-5/250 architectures. It integrates internal loop power (20-30V DC), effectively driving field-side transmitters without the need for external loop supplies—a critical consideration for rack-space optimization.

This internal sourcing imposes a substantial backplane load; the module pulls 2.4A from the chassis, generating a 12W thermal footprint that requires careful power budgeting.
Fault Protection & Safety
Fault management is handled by deterministic 5-second open-circuit detection and 24V DC overvoltage clamping, ensuring hardware survival against physical layer failures or transmitter faults.
