24V DC Rail Power Consumption
What is the 14 mA current draw on the 24V DC rail actually used for?
This minimal power consumption supports critical interface components. The 14 mA draw powers opto-isolators for the RS-232 serial port and internal ASIC logic gates. While rack logic operates on 5.1V, loss of the 24V rail due to power supply failure will immediately disable local diagnostic ports and serial communications.

Can the L61S operate as a standalone controller without the Safety Partner?
For standard logic applications: Yes. For Safety (SIL3) applications: No. The L61S requires a 1756-LSP Safety Partner in the adjacent slot.
