The ABB IMDSI14 Digital Input Module serves as a high-density sensory bridge within the INFI 90® OPEN Strategic Process Management System. Engineered to process 16 independent discrete signals, the module facilitates seamless translation of field-side states—including dry contact closures, proximity switches, and manual interlocks—into deterministic data for the control backplane.
Operating as the primary input layer for the INFI 90 ecosystem, the IMDSI14 specializes in signal conditioning and electrical isolation. Each of the 16 separate channels is designed to filter and debounce field-level transitions, preventing electrical noise or contact chatter from inducing spurious logic triggers in central processing units.
Designed for mission-critical environments like power generation and petrochemical processing, the IMDSI14 emphasizes hardware-to-logic segregation. This I/O module separates field-side power surges and common-mode noise from the sensitive INFI 90 OPEN backplane, maintaining system-wide uptime even in electrically challenging industrial settings.
Important ESD Protection: Use the Elsag Bailey field static kit (part number 1948385 1). It includes two wrist straps, a ground cord assembly, an alligator clip, and a static-dissipating work surface. Connect both technician and work surface to the same ground point to prevent electrostatic discharge damage.
Step 1: Keep Module in Static Bag
Leave the module in its static shielding bag until ready to install. Save the bag for future use.
Step 2: Ground the Bag
Touch the bag to equipment housing or other grounded point before opening.
Step 3: Handle by Edges
Do not touch circuitry. Handle assemblies only by edges.
Step 4: Verify Grounding
Make sure all connected devices are grounded before operation. Avoid partial connections of static-sensitive devices.
Step 5: Ground Test Equipment
Ensure test equipment is grounded.
Step 6: Remove Dust
Use an antistatic field service vacuum if needed.
Step 7: Use Wrist Strap
Connect the grounded wrist strap before installing or removing modules.
Step 8: Set Dipswitches Properly
Do not use lead pencils to set dipswitches. Avoid contaminating switch contacts to prevent circuit board malfunction.
