Product Description
ABB NISA-03 DDCS/ISA Adaptor Module Kit with 16-bit ISA Slot and Dual 5/10 Megabaud Optical Channels 0
The NISA-03 DDCS/ISA Adapter is an interface board for controlling ABB ACS 600 Product Family drives (later referred to as ACx 600) from a personal desktop computer. The board enables the use of DriveWare PC software, such as DriveWindow, and occupies a standard 16-bit ISA slot on the computer motherboard.
The optical signal is connected to the NAMC (Application and Motor Control Board) of the ACx 600 using fibre optic cables. This signal can be distributed to several drives through NDBU Series Branching Units; refer to the NDBU documentation for more information on this feature.
The NISA-03 has two DDCS-protocol optical channels: one equipped with 5 megabaud optical components, and the other with 10 megabaud optical components. The choice of channel depends on the board it is connected to.

Step 1 - Power Down the System
  • Switch off the PC and all its peripherals. Disconnect the mains leads.
  • Switch off the mains supply and other dangerous voltages (e.g., from external control circuits) to the ACx 600.
Step 2 - Prepare the PC
  • Remove the PC cover.
  • Check that no existing boards use the same addressing space as the NISA-03.
  • Default base I/O address: 280H (requires 32 consecutive locations).
  • If already in use, select 2A0H using DIP switches (IAS3 not used).
  • Tip: Write down I/O addresses of all boards--it simplifies adding new cards later and helps with troubleshooting.
Step 3 - Install the NISA-03 Adapter
  • Locate an available 16-bit ISA card slot.
  • Remove the expansion slot cover and screw (keep the screw).
  • Press the NISA-03 into the slot evenly and firmly.
  • Fasten the NISA-03 using the screw from the slot cover.
  • Close the PC cover.
Caution: Before working on the ACx 600, wait at least 5 minutes to allow intermediate circuit capacitors to discharge.
Step 4 - Connect Fibre Optic Cables to the ACx 600
  • Open the front cover (or door) of the ACx 600.
  • Locate the NAMC (or NDBU) board (location varies by drive type).
  • Lead the fibre optic cables inside the drive. Use grommets at cable lead-throughs.
  • Connect the fibre optic cables:
    • NAMC Board: Channel 3 (terminals V19 and V20)
    • NDBU Branching Unit: Incoming cables to the MSTR channel
  • Observe connector colour codes.
Step 5 - Connect Fibre Optic Cables to the PC
  • At the PC, connect the fibre optic cables to the appropriate NISA-03 channel (CH0 or CH1).
  • Observe connector colour codes.
Step 6 - Finalize Installation
  • Close the front cover (or door) of the ACx 600.
  • Ensure all connections are secure before powering up the system.

Q: How do I check if the I/O address is free?
A: The default is 280H. If another board uses it, switch to 2A0H using the DIP switches. Quick tip: jot down all I/O addresses--it makes adding new cards easier later.
Q: Which slot should I use for the NISA-03?
A: Any free 16-bit ISA slot works. Just double-check that no other board is using the same address.
Q: How do I connect the fibre optic cables?
A: Lead them to the NAMC or NDBU inside the ACx 600. Use grommets at cable openings and match the connector colours--easy to follow.
Q: Which channel on the NISA-03 do I pick?
A: Depends on your setup. There's CH0 and CH1--check your board diagram to be sure.
Q: How long should I wait before touching the ACx 600?
A: At least 5 minutes after switching off mains, so the capacitors discharge safely.
Q: Any other tips?
A: Press the board in evenly, screw it tight, and double-check all fibre optic connections before closing the covers. Simple but important!
