Allen Bradley 1784-KTXD Communication Interface Card
The Allen-Bradley 1784-KTXD is a dual-channel communication interface card designed for industrial automation networks. This versatile card functions as a node on DH+ networks or DH-485 networks (via channel 1 only) and can also operate as a remote I/O scanner.
Compatible with 16-bit EISA or ISA card expansion slots (not 8-bit), the 1784-KTXD facilitates communication with various PLC processors including PLC-3, PLC-2, PLC-5, and SLC 5/04 processors on DH+ networks, as well as SLC processors on DH-485 networks.
Prior to installation, the dual-channel card requires configuration of two base memory addresses and interrupt settings to ensure proper operation and avoid conflicts with other expansion cards.
Supported Communication Protocols
- Communicates with nodes on Data Highway networks, including PLC-2 and PLC-3 processors
- Communicates on Data Highway Plus networks, including PLC-5 and SLC 5/04 processors
- Supports SLC 5/01, SLC 5/02, and SLC 5/03 processors (via 1784-KA5)
- Communicates with SLC processors on DH-485 networks
Remote I/O Capability
The 1784-KTX and 1784-KTXD cards can function as remote I/O scanners, while the 1784-KTS card operates exclusively as a remote I/O scanner.
Card Operation
Performs comprehensive data transmission, data management, and local network diagnostics. Interfaces with the host processor through board-resident dual-port memory for efficient communication.
Software Interface
Managed by Allen-Bradley interface software for data transmission and reception. Compatible with RSLogix via RSLinx, AI, 6200, and INTERCHANGE software platforms.
Configuration Requirements
Set the base memory address on KTx cards to prevent interference with other expansion cards. Dual-channel cards require configuration of two separate base memory addresses.
Important: Although the 1784-KTXD features two channels, it cannot be used to directly bridge between two separate networks.
