The 1746-OBP16 is a sixteen (16) channel discrete output module from the Allen-Bradley SLC 500 product family. It provides a 24 VDC output and includes an integrated fuse designed to protect the module against short-circuit and overload conditions. The module occupies one slot in an SLC 500 chassis and is compatible with both fixed and modular style hardware configurations.
The 1746-OBP16 features an integrated electronic fuse for each output channel, allowing individual channel protection. When a short-circuit or overload condition is detected, the affected channel is shut down while other channels continue to operate normally. An E-FUSE LED located on the front panel illuminates to indicate the presence of a fault condition. Channel shutdown occurs when an error is detected, providing protection to the output circuitry.
To allow a channel to recover from a fault condition, system power must be removed and the actual source of the error must be corrected. Once the fault has been cleared and power is reapplied, the module automatically resets and resumes normal output operation. This automatic fault recovery should be considered as part of the system's fail-safe operating conditions.
Factory Default Configuration
The 1746-OBP16 High Current Sourcing DC Output Module includes a factory-configured JP1 jumper setting. With this configuration, if the module fuse blows, the processor operation will continue without interruption. The JP1 position is set at the factory to allow normal processor operation while providing channel-level protection. This ensures that other output channels remain functional and that the system continues to operate safely even in the event of a single channel fuse failure.
Processor Fault Mode Configuration
The 1746-OBP16 High Current Sourcing DC Output Module includes a JP1 jumper that can be configured for Processor Fault mode. In this configuration, if the module fuse blows, the processor generates a nonrecoverable error for all SLC 500 processors.
In the event of a nonrecoverable error:
- Processor operation halts and the processor fault light flashes
- All outputs are reset to OFF
- The processor major fault bit S:1/13 is set
- Monitor processor status file word S:6 for the error code
